To take a photograph
is a collaboration between Lucy May Schofield and Magic Arm. The piece is woven with sound clips gathered from the US, Japan, Korea, China and Scotland. Souvenirs from another life are enveloped in a soundtrack of distant memories brought closer. Echoes of fernweh (farsickness) are held in the hands of home at a time when travel to anywhere was impossible.
This collaboration was inspired by an open call from aTE Arts Territory Exchange & MUCK (Must Use Critical Knowledge) to bring together a number of textual prompts to instigate questions around the possibility of the Earth’s recovery, the inevitability of man’s eventual demise, connectivity, hope and isolation. Artists from around the world were invited to provide accompanying sound works reflecting on their own territories, the fantasy of other places and the excitements and restrictions of proximity and distance.
