Incubate

Between the vernal equinox and the summer solstice, during the many days of lockdown in the UK, I stitched together forty two panels of cyanotype printed silk to form a hand sewn quilt. The silk rectangles were remnants of past equinox and solstice performances from 2017, imprinted with the light from those days on that year. At sunset on Sunday 21st June 2020, the day after the longest day, I took the quilt to the highest point on the Northumbrian fells, just by the Pennine Way path and watched the light dissolve in a field of cotton grass. I curled up on the quilt for the final fragments of light to incubate me for the coming change of season.
