MI-LAB Advanced Training Residency Fujikawaguchiko, Japan, 21st October - 25th November 2018.
During Autumn 2018, I returned to MI-LAB in Lake Fujikawaguchiko, at the foot of Mount Fuji to attend the Mokuhanga Advanced Training Programme with 4 other artists from Australia and Hawaii.
The programme focused on deepening various techniques in Mokuhanga, from Urauchi (paper backing prints) to Dosa biki (sizing washi), making Ori-hon (accordion books) and learning about e-maki mono (scroll making).
Taught by the wonderful Master Printer Tetsuo Soyama, sadly the last programme he would teach for MI-LAB, the work created during this residency will be exhibited in Tokyo in late January during an exhibition dedicated to the Master.
