Mokuhanga Sisters - A collaboration across continents, film presented at IMPACT 12, Bristol 2022.
For the IMPACT 12 #summerofprintandbooks hosted by CFPR, artist Lucy May Schofield (UK) introduces the The Mokuhanga Sisters print collective, formed of nine artists from five countries who met during several Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory residencies under the shadow of Mt.Fuji, Japan between 2017 - 2019. The collective maintained a desire to stay connected and to continue to collaborate across continents. During 2020 Katie Baldwin (USA), Patty Hudak (USA), Mariko Jesse (USA), Kate MacDonagh (Ireland), Yoonmi Nam (USA), Natasha Norman (South Africa), Mia O (Japan), Lucy May Schofield (UK) and Melissa Schulenberg (USA) kept connected through fortnightly online meetings, collaborating on the project 'Borderless', presented at the International Mokuhanga Conference in Nara, Japan in 2021. The collective has since expanded and evolved, recently presenting the group exhibition 'The world between the block and the paper' at the Southern Vermont Arts Centre of over 150 mokuhanga prints by more than 25 contemporary woodblock printmakers from around the world.
