QUEEN ELIZABETH SCHOLARSHIP TRUST - Supporting excellence in British Craftsmanship - 2021/22 Scholarship.
I am proud to announce that I am one of 20 new scholars to have been awarded funding to enable me to travel to Japan to learn how to make hyōsō works (hanging scrolls) using mokuhanga prints instructed by master craftspeople. While in Japan I will continue my study of hand paper making to expand my skills in creating washi-based artworks. Through a bespoke training plan, my QEST funding will also allow me to attend several courses in the UK to learn more about creating natural pigments, inks and dyes to use within printmaking. One to one guidance with local foragers and makers will focus on creating a more sustainable practice, one which is in greater harmony with nature.
QEST offers scholarships of up to £18,000 for the training and education of talented and aspiring craftspeople. Their mission is to sustain vital skills in traditional and contemporary crafts and contribute to excellence in the British craft industry.
