THE 5TH INTERNATIONAL MOKUHANGA CONFERENCE 2024
+ Mokuhanga Sisters Artist Residency & Exhibition, March - April, Japan
On March 17th, five of the Mokuhanga Sisters collective reunited for a two-week printmaking residency in the historic paper making village of Echizen in Japan. We were invited by the organisers of MI-LAB to spend time in the newly appointed residency house before the start of the International Mokuhanga Conference 'Inheritance and Innovation' from April 4th - 7th. Printmakers gathered from all across the world to celebrate and deepen their knowledge of water-based woodblock printmaking. I was delighted to be able to return to Japan again this year to learn from my incredibly inspiring colleagues and teachers.
Highlights from the conference included the hand washi making workshops, the Key note speech by Peter Macmillan, the printmaking demonstration by Kyoko Hirai, a Sumi factory tour in Nara, presenting work at the Open portfolio and the Juried Exhibition.
