Visual Artists in Rural Communities, VARC, Northumberland, UK, October 2016 - September 2017
From October 8th 2016 I will be taking up the position of VARC artist in residence for 1 year until September 22nd 2017. Since 2000 VARC has funded and managed an on-going programme of twelve-month residencies for visual artists. It aims to offer opportunities to artists to develop new work in response to the remote rural landscape and its community. I will spend twelve months living and working at Highgreen, located in the heart of the Northumberland International Dark Sky park, Europe's largest area of protected night sky covering 572 square miles. Nestled amongst moorland between Hadrian's wall and the Scottish borders, Tarset and the surrounding area is a place of remote natural beauty, which I am thrilled to be invited to explore. varc.org.uk
